November Topic
Friday, November 8 • 10:00 a.m. – 11:30 a.m. PT
Learning to center the voices of the populations and communities we support is crucial to effective prevention. You may have heard the phrase “nothing about us without us” – but how do we ensure that our priority populations are leaders and stay at the front and center of our efforts, when they have historically been marginalized within their own communities?
Research on transgender and non-binary individuals shows higher instances of substance use and misuse than cisgender individuals, and research on Gender Non-Conforming (GNC) individuals is ongoing. The interactive Elevating Community Voices: Centering Primary Prevention with Transgender and Gender Non-Conforming Communities session will explore barriers to engaging Transgender and GNC individuals in prevention including stigma, exclusion, and lack of cultural humility in healthcare. The subject matter expert will lead discussions in how to address these barriers and highlight the voices of transgender and GNC communities in prevention efforts.
Continuing Education Units (CEUs) are not eligible for the Prevention Pathways Community of Practice and Prevention Applications Community of Practice sessions. If you have any questions, please reach out to ABHPCinfo@cars-rp.org.
