Prevention Certification

Are you interested in pursuing the California Certified Prevention Specialist (CCPS) credential? ABHPC can help any prevention professional in California navigate the CCPS application or renewal process, including receiving Continuing Education Units (CEUs) for ABHPC training events.

CCPS Certification

CCPS certification is a credential for prevention professionals in California. The California Consortium of Addiction Programs and Professionals (CCAPP) is responsible for CCPS certification. You can become CCPS certified if you have completed at least one year of prevention experience, taken a minimum number of hours of training and education, passed the IC&RC Certified Prevention Specialist written exam, and paid the CCAPP application or recertification fees.

Learn about becoming certified or renewing your certification at the CCAPP prevention specialist application and renewal page. (Please note that ABHPC does not accept or process CCPS applications.)

In your CCPS application, you must be able to show that you have received a minimum number of training and education hours across several core areas. ABHPC offers many no-cost trainings that can be used to meet these requirements. We can help you document the ABHPC trainings you have completed. If you would like a record of your continuing education activities with ABHPC, submit the ABHPC Training Certificate Request Form and we will send you certificates for the trainings and CEUs you have completed.

ABHPC provides no-cost onsite trainings, online trainings, and webinars on an array of prevention topics. ABHPC offers trainings across all six CCAPP core areas: planning and evaluation, prevention education and service delivery, communication, community organizing, public policy and environmental change, and professional growth and development. Learn more about ABHPC offerings at the TA and Training Services page.

ABHPC trainings are tailored to the CCPS credential; as a result, CARS recommends any professional seeking CEUs for another credential always work with their credentialing/licensure board to ensure ABHPC CEUs will be accepted for their respective credential/license.

Visit the ABHPC TA/Training Request Form to request a virtual or onsite training for your organization. One-day trainings are provided at no cost throughout California for groups of at least 25 participants. The trainings are led by subject-matter experts in the prevention field.

Overview of CEUs

During live trainings, information about how to request no-cost CEUs will be provided at the end of the training.

If you would like a record of your continuing education activities with ABHPC, submit the ABHPC Training Certificate Request Form and we will send you certificates for the trainings and CEUs you have completed.
